Fijians are Melanesians and are mainly dark-skinned with extremely tight frizzy hair. Traditionally men and women used combs such as this one to create very ornate hairstyles.
Melanesians are the predominant and indigenous inhabitants of Melanesia, in a wide area from the eastern of Indonesia (East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku Islands, Western New Guinea), Papua New Guinea to as far east as the islands of Vanuatu and Fiji.
